Step 2: Make adjustments.
- If more than 2 people regularly occupy the space, add 600 Btu/hour for each additional person.
- If the unit will be used in a kitchen, increase capacity by 4,000 Btu/hour.
A new ENERGY STAR certified room air conditioner uses at least 10% less energy than a conventional model, saving you about $50 over the unit's lifetime.
