Limited Income Energy Efficiency Program

If you are a single-family homeowner receiving energy assistance you could be eligible for a home energy audit and energy-saving home improvements at no additional cost as part of your existing BGE service.

BGE’s Limited Income Energy Efficiency Program provides income-qualified homeowners a variety of energy-saving services and quality home improvements, which may include:

  • Insulation
  • Air sealing (e.g., caulking, weather stripping)
  • Windows and exterior door repair
  • Gas furnace and boiler repairs or replacements for natural gas customers
  • Heat pump tune-up, repair, or replacement
  • Duct sealing and insulation
  • High-efficiency lighting
  • Major appliances (refrigerators, clothes washers, room air conditioners)
  • Water heater tune-up, repair, or replacement (excluding propane or oil water heaters)
  • Water heater tank wraps and pipe insulation
  • Low-flow showerheads
  • Faucet aerators
  • Health and safety repairs

Qualifying households become eligible for installation of energy-saving measures following a comprehensive home energy audit performed by an energy advisor who is a certified building science professional. If you qualify, this audit and any follow-up improvements are included in your current BGE service at no additional cost.

Your energy advisor will:

  • Evaluate your home.
  • Prioritize the most effective ways to reduce your energy costs while increasing comfort.
  • Install the recommended energy-saving measures.

After the energy efficiency upgrades have been made to your home, your energy advisor will conduct another set of tests to verify results and confirm that your home is operating more energy efficiently and meeting important health and safety standards.
