ENERGY STAR® for New Homes
Looking for a new home? ENERGY STAR qualified homes offer you all of the features you want in a new home, plus energy-efficient improvements that deliver better performance, greater comfort, healthier surroundings, and lower energy bills. What's more, you will have made a financially and environmentally sound investment.
Why Choose ENERGY STAR?
ENERGY STAR is the nationally recognized symbol for energy efficiency, as designated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). ENERGY STAR qualified homes include a variety of “tried-and-true” energy efficiency features:
- Effective insulation
- High-performance windows and doors
- Tight construction and ducts
- Efficient heating and cooling equipment
- Efficient products and appliances
To earn the ENERGY STAR, a home must meet energy efficiency guidelines set by the EPA. These homes are at least 15% more energy efficient than homes built to code, but they typically include energy-saving features that make them 20–30% more efficient than standard homes. Properly installed energy efficiency features deliver better protection against cold, heat, drafts, moisture, air pollution, and noise and help ensure consistent temperatures between rooms. Third-party verification ensures that your ENERGY STAR home will deliver improved quality and comfort with a reduced energy demand. Plus, when the time comes to sell, your home will have the ENERGY STAR label—a big advantage in a competitive real estate marketplace.
