ENERGY STAR® for New Homes

Looking for a new home? ENERGY STAR certified homes offer you all of the latest features you want in a new home, plus energy-efficient improvements that deliver better quality, better performance, better comfort, and better value. What's more, you will have made a financially and environmentally sound investment which means energy and cost savings month after month.

ENERGY STAR is the nationally recognized symbol for energy efficiency, as designated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). ENERGY STAR certified homes include a variety of “tried-and-true” energy efficiency features:

  •     Effective insulation
  •     High-performance windows and doors
  •     Tight construction and ducts
  •     Efficient heating and cooling equipment
  •     Efficient products and appliances

To earn the ENERGY STAR, a home must meet energy efficiency guidelines set by the EPA. These homes are at least 15% more energy efficient than standard new homes built to code, and they typically include energy-saving features that make them 20–30% more efficient. Properly installed energy efficiency features deliver better protection against cold, heat, drafts, moisture, air pollution, and noise and help ensure consistent temperatures between rooms. Third-party verification ensures that your ENERGY STAR home will deliver improved quality and comfort with a reduced energy demand. Plus, when the time comes to sell, your home will have the ENERGY STAR label—a big advantage in a competitive real estate marketplace.
